-- That's all Folks! --
Done and done and done. 2lt Austin here, finally out of OTS for good! We had a very moving commissioning ceremony this morning. I went first, and it was basically me reading the commissioning Oath, then getting pinned on by my mom and grandmother, and then getting my first salute from my dad. A Lt Col from my base came down and read me the Oath, it was pretty neat. That's why I went first by the way, since he was the highest ranking person there to commission someone. A lot of people were crying and overall it was pretty neat. It was especially cool to see the prior service guys get pinned on. They appreciate it a whole lot more being in the Air Force for 10 years a piece. After the ceremony we all went out to the parade ground for the big finale parade. It went well other than it being about 100 degrees out there. I don't know what it is about not moving and your nose itching but I can tell you I was dying out there. I snuck a little scratch on the way down from a salute though...At the end we read our oath again and a C-5 galaxy flew over low and slow, it was great. Threw the hat, and boom I am done! Kind of stinks I can't roll right out of Montgomery since our tickets aren't until Sunday but at least I don't have to wake up at 0500. Was also cool last night, driving in the gate I got my first actual salute from the gate guards. They gave us our Lt ID cards a day early, but I wasn't about to let him know I didn't deserve it. Anyway sayonara for now, I will update once I am rolling into Brooks for the physical. If I find some webspace I may get some more pictures up as well at some point. Later.

-- 1 Day, 23 hours, 15 minutes, 37 seconds.... --
Sooooo close! Family gets here tomorrow so it will be great to see all of them. We have our dining out tonight as well. It's a formal dinner with lots of traditions and ceremonies that supposedly are a lot of fun (most of the ceremonies involve drinking...) It kind of stinks it is a day earlier than when my fam gets here since you are allowed to bring guests to this one, but I think I will be able to deal. Maybe I will seduce a beautiful Colonel? Nah. We have to throw on our mess dress which is a 300 dollar tuxedo we bought last week. Haven't seen myself in it yet, come to think of it I don't even know if it fits. The drill for when my family gets here is going to be pretty simple, they are showing up on Thursday and I get to show them all around campus and eat with them in the chow hall (we'll save the stolen MRE's for later.) Then it's lights out and Friday morning it's 2lt time. It should go pretty smoothly as long as mom doesn't get dehydrated from crying too much. I'll let her borrow my canteen I guess. Anyway next entry will be back home on leave or right before I head out for my Brooks physical. It's been real.

Yo. Another weekend down and I'm still not kicked out. Wonder of wonders. It was another hectic time at the Wingate but it was a blast as usual. Back now to the grind (well not really we have literally nothing to do...) Sorry no pictures but my webspace ran out on earthlink. Does anyone know a cheap provider who can give me more than 10 megs? If I got one I could load a lot more pictures up here. Short entry today, have to run.

-- Un-Fun Run --
This morning we had the 1547th bi-tri-monthly OTS Fun Run. 2.7 miles around the base, I did it in 25.51. I came in 133rd out of about 220 so nice and comfortable in the middle. Also had the wing brief off this morning, felt real cozy sitting in the back. Especially seeing the competition, one guy made everyone cry talking about flag burning (except me.) Washed my BDU's this weekend, or took them to the cleaner rather. That is significant for a few reasons. For one, the other day at commander's call the lower class was joking about how one of their OT's had JUST washed his BDU's after 3 weeks! Gross!!! But it made me realize that maybe where I was at, the 10 week point without a wash, was pushing it a little bit. I also didn't really have a choice since they were soaked with sweat from the Obstacle Course and MOE. I got them back yesterday and I think they are about 10 pounds lighter with all the dirt out of em. I also got one of my blues shirts washed and it's amazing the difference. I know most people realize earlier in life that washed clothes look nicer, but better late than never. So anyway gearing up for the weekend, found out today I have to take the AFOQT
(Air Force Officer Qualification Test) test all over again tomorrow, I did pretty well on the first one but can't say I'm too pumped up to take it all over again. Anyone reading this who's taken it knows it's about as fun as sticking the number 2 pencil directly in your eyeball. But I digress, I need to look past it and see the weekend and the next week containing days like "Last Tuesday ever at OTS" and "Last Wednesday ever at OTS"...should be fun. Adios. Oh and as directed by my head writer, Lucky, I will put a picture of my dirty blues shirt on the web tomorrow.

Well I am now officially done. I did my squadron brief off yesterday and didn't win...DAMN! Now I don't get to stand up in front of the entire class and give my brief. As you can imagine I was crushed but I am over it now (Let's just say I might of thrown in a few extra uhhhhh's in there...) Life has been pretty much normal the last couple of days, as soon as I get done with class at night I throw on my civie gear and hit the road. I am going to get fat eating only restaurant food but I have pledged to never eat dinner at the dining hall again except with the fam when they are down. Had a flash of brilliance at PC the other morning. We do our stretches every morning before and after the workout and they are all sitting down except one, the calf stretch. I hated standing up for just that one stretch so I invented the sitting calf stretch! It's sweet and gives me a few more minutes of sleep in the morning. Half my squadron has followed suit and I predict it will sweep through the wing like Pog's. Our flight member that got recycled got thrown back into our lower class the other day. She has to watch us graduate which I can't even imagine doing. Not only does she have to do that but she has to do every parade practice, watch us do PC, everything. We also lost another guy in the squadron today who failed his make up PFT. We all knew he would since he has struggled the entire time here at OTS. He didn't even come close, and we are all kind of baffled why he wasted 10 weeks of his life when it was 100% certain he would not pass this test. Anyway, he's gone. Hope you guys liked the pictures, I am going to figure out a way this weekend to put a link to them on the main page so you don't have to hunt through all the entries to find em. I'll also throw up the ones with the fighters in em (I forgot last week). Anyway 6.5 days and a wake-up left!

-- Another Picture update! --
Well we made it back from MOE. Called it quits a little early when a huge storm blew through. Next day we did the obstacle course which was a blast and then got back to campus where we were given 3rd Lt status! Long story short it means we can go to bars and be in our civilian clothes, which I am sitting in right now. Ahhhhhh, no garters... Anyway going to get this show started so I will be brief. Here are the pictures I made my mom wait for all last weekend:
Picture update #2
Enjoy.

-- Mobilized! --
hehehe...yes I am at the mobility site. Yes I am on the internet. "Somehow" I am working command post out here at we have an air conditioned office with computer and internet. I love it. Yesterday was pretty fun, we land-naved out here using a compass and pace count. We got about halfway though and we went to black flag temperature conditions (black flag=too damn hot) so we called off the land nav and marched the rest of the way. Got here and found our tent, air conditioned of course. It was great we got here early as well since we were able to go to all of the other tents and steal their fans and cushy chairs. Chalk Bravo Tent 5 is definitely the coolest as of right now. Also got to eat my first MRE (Meal Ready to Eat). These are the updated versions of the C-rations my dad was used to and are pretty decent. They actually have a way to heat your food using just water through some chemical reaction, so you even get a hot meal with no flame or anything. I had ravioli with meat sauce and life was good. Finally we all got to go up in a c-130 and cruise around a little bit. They didn't yank and bank too much but it was cool and officially my first ever flight in a 130 so kind of historical. Stayed up late playing spades (I lost) and then went to bed around 2200 since I had to get up for this shift at 0430. Couldn't sleep half the night though since I was too cold, go figure out in a tent in Alabama and i'm too cold. Anyway, all in all pretty good first day. We have exercises this afternoon (project x style leadership problems) and then who knows what tonight. My leadership test is over already though so I'm good to go. All I had to do was teach our class how to use the compass and to get a pace count. I did pretty well and got another high sat. That will actually be my last grade even though it doesn't really count. But it means I got all high sats on stuff so I am pretty proud of that. Anyway I'm taking a lot of pictures so I will get them up this weekend hopefully, after our golf tournament (I'll explain later!) From the field, out.

-- Off to MOE --
Sorry it's been awhile. Had a pretty crazy weekend, that information will be divulged on a need to know basis (#1 Rule of Wingate is don't talk about Wingate!). Anyway I can't write a lot right now have to go get ready to mobilize. We are starting our Vigilant Warrior mobility exercise today so I won't be able to write till Friday. Kind of weird, we are split into chalks that are different from all our flights, so we are with all new people. I have a few tigers in mine though, including one of my best buddies. So I got that going for me. Got to the hotel this weekend and realized all the pictures on my computer were old ones so hopefully I will get you all new ones this weekend. later.

-- That's all folks! --
Never thought it would come...done all graded measures! LRC and CWT #3 done! LRC was a blast earlier this week. Can't really describe what I did other than we were 20 feet in the air swinging like Tarzan. I had pretty good control of the team and it earned me a high sat rating. Also got my advocacy brief grades back. At first I had a 17 which is a sat and I thought was bogus since I felt I did pretty well. So after reviewing the tapes (FTO checked everyone's twice) mine got bumped up 2 points to a high sat. Only problem is we have to choose one person to go to the squadron brief off (which leads to the wing brief) and I have a bad feeling it's me since he used my tape in class as an example of a good brief. Maybe I will through the squadron brief....("Who's ready to laugh!") Anyway also had our final CWT today. I got a 94% which I am a little annoyed at since I think two of the questions I got wrong were bogus! (Yeah I'm that dork I used to get angry at who complains about a high grade) So I wrote a critique of the questions with some pretty valid points so maybe they will drop em. So anyway, long story short, unless I kill someone in the next 3 weeks, I am getting my gold bars! Only sour note is that two people in my flight did poorly enough on all 3 tests that they have to take comprehensive tests on the sections they missed. This is serious business as if they get below 80 on the comprehensive (It's based on all 3 tests!) they are either recycled into our lower class or kicked out altogether. Which is not good. We are going to help them study this weekend and hopefully they will get through it so we can graduate the whole flight in a couple weeks. Brings me to this weekend, I hopefully will get to go to the hotel and get some pictures uploaded (and play the hell out of star wars galaxies). However our FTO may do what he did last weekend and deny our privileges since two can't go. Funny because they taught us it is improper to punish us all due to the actions of an individual or individuals. Anyway rant off. SO...everything done, just have mobility next week. it's a fake exercise where we live in tents (Air conditioned of course, this is the air force...) and run around in the woods. Should be fun. After that...damn I'm out of here pretty much! So pictures this weekend if I get to a hotel, otherwise look forward to another angry rant! out.

-- 2 down... --
Well just finished my advocacy brief. I got either a sat or a high sat, he hasn't given us our grades yet. Hopefully I didn't do too well though since the best from each flight has to do their briefing again for THE ENTIRE CLASS. No thank you! Also had out PFT this morning...I passed that as well. Improved my score another 50 points while I was at it. That run though, I'll tell you what, every second of it sucks. I was on lap five thinking "If this was a permanent condition that is what hell could be like..." But it's over and I passed. Feels crazy to be this near to the end actually, the CWT on Friday is really the last major thing we have. Have to get back to class now so that's all for today.
